This volume draws together a collection of studies on monumental architecture of the 3rd c. B.C., from the Greek mainland, Aegean Islands, Asia Minor and the Near East. The work fills an important lacuna in our research: the architecture of the 3rd c. B.C. is a period that is poorly known, even in relation to the most famous sites. The authors present new studies on major sites or specific monuments (Delphi, Delos, Sicyon, Ptolemaion of Limyra etc.), regional syntheses (Peloponnese, Dodecanese), as well as thematic essays (on Corinthian capitals, technical processes). Thus, the book provides much-needed clarity on the architecture of the period. We can see clearly that the diffusion of styles and techniques was greatly affected by the intrusion of royal propaganda, which, after Alexander, became the principal motor of large-scale monumental building.
