Pictor

Pictor, whose first volume was published in 2013, is the collection of the Association Française pour la Peinture Murale Antique (French Association for Ancient Wall Painting). Dedicated to the study of painted and stuccoed architectural revetments, mainly in Gaul but also in other provinces of the Empire, it publishes the proceedings of the annual colloquia of the AFPMA, as well as monographs on ancient decoration. The approach to this material is meant to be holistic, embracing archaeology, art history and archaeometry. The collection is also open to methodological considerations (from recording and documentation to restitution), as well as to conservation-restoration issues. Its aim is to share and disseminate the results of research on ancient wall painting, in order to contribute to an ever finer understanding of this priceless heritage.
