For the first time since 1984, the regular meetings on archeology and history in Périgord (Rencontres d’archéologie et d’histoire en Périgord) did not take place in September 2020 because of the covid pandemic. However this exceptional and terrible stop has allowed us to measure the importance of discoveries presented in our numerous publications – nearly thirty – on the history of castles. The scientific council of our association thought therefore it was time now to honour Périgord whose local and regional authorities have, from the very beginning, supported our action now considered as unique in Europe. This publication is the fruit of all this, based on a retrospective review of articles published during the past fifteen years. It offers specific studies on Périgord châteaux presented in their singular context: such as Biron, Thénac, l’Herm, Bridoire, Campagne, Montaigne, Puyguilhem, la Force… and Garrigues castle at Bergerac. We wish to thank the various authors of articles for accepting to update some aspects of their work linked to progress in research, notably in archeology.
