This volume, in tribute to Nicole Methy, brings together 20 contributions, including 4 which were composed by Nicole Methy herself (one of these contributions is as yet unpublished, and the other three are hard to find by now). While it contributes to a better understanding of the second century p.C, including Antonine ideology and literary culture of the time, the book focuses on Pliny the Younger. To this extent, it takes into account all the sources, i.e. archaeology, numismatics and texts. In this regard, the Epistles and the Panegyricus of Trajan are explored through several approaches: analysis of themes (health, suffering, mourning, women…), but close reading as well. The portrait of various characters (Varro, Nero) is also discussed and finally is proposed a study which deals with the reception.
