In Western Europe, late prehistorical societies from the last three centuries BC were successively in contact with major Mediterranean Powers. Modifications of weaponry and/or warrior behavior could occur through this proximity: they are often analyzed from a bilateral perspective between a group and Rome. This work aims an archaeological study of socio-cultural dynamics associated with warfare and their evolution in a multilateral approach on a wide scale of Western Europe. The weapons and commandment tools used by individuals are most important to approach these issues; they lead us to determine the part of interaction in the evolution of combat systems and self-representation of warriors. Contextual analysis is central to further address the place of warfare in societies, their evolutions and the part of external stimulus.
This book offers a large-scale multilateral approach of the remains of warfare in Western Europe societies by analyzing the archaeological data with different methods from the artefact, the discovery context to the 3D analysis, in order to embrace both the tools and their conditions of use and exchange.
