Nowadays the image of the castle sought refuge in the past, in historical imagination. It became a museum at best, a place of remembrance according to the traditional expression. At worst, it disappeared and only offers a park to daydream in – a forgettable place since gardens disappear way before fortifications. Except for the questioning about places of love, it is less the castle as a home that interested this conference’s participants than the people within the castle. It is rather obvious – stones do not make love. But it is only obvious for archives’ enjoyers; those who dive into the imaginary know that a castle has a soul. Thus, two main types of benefits emerge from these 20th Rencontres: those about “love within the castle” strictly speaking and those about the “love castle”. (M. Daumas)
