For a long time Routiers and mercenaries of the Hundred Years War (1337-1453) have been seen in a bad light by historians because of their ambiguous role during this war. Wavering between employment by princely powers and an almost complete autonomy, their place within the Anglo-French conflict raises some questions the proceedings of this conference attempt to resolve. The papers of this volume written by specialists of medieval warfare give us a better idea of the complex routier phenomenon which probably had a more important role that has been previously accepted until recently.
