Young Lutheran Breslau-born patrician, Seyfried Rybisch (1530-1584), has written a travel diary – Itinerarium – after his law studies from age eighteen to twenty-four. In this in-depth Itinerarium, he accounts for his time in Germany, France and Italy. Up to this day, it had never been published. Today, the original Latin manuscript is published online while its translation and comments are published in this book. It is a worthy record of the cultural experiences of a Renaissance European, keen on antiquity, who would then make a career as a high official at the Habsburgs’ in Bratislava and Breslau – today Wrocław in Poland.
