At the beginning of the twenty-first century, the Antiquity pervades more than ever the imagination of many creators, whether novelists, filmmakers, screenwriters of TV series or comic strips writers. The references to the Antiquity are more and more numerous and multiform, so that they now compete with the medieval imaginary until then dominant, especially in sci-fi and fantasy.
What does this return of the ancient imaginary tell us about our relationship with Antiquity, about its status in the Western world at the beginning of the twenty-first century ? In whhat way does it reveal the concerns, even the obsessions of our societies ? What sense do the authors give it, in what context and in what forms ? These are some questions to which this book attempts, on the basis of precise surveys, but also of general overviews, to provide an answer.
