Catalogues d'exposition
The earliest towns in Celtic Europe developed from the Atlantic to the Carpathians in the 3rd century BC. Although there were indications that these early urban forms existed in Aquitaine, a team of scientists set up to investigate and supplement the data. Since 2019, five archaeological settlements have been explored in the Dordogne, Gironde and Lot-et-Garonne. This catalogue features 64 authors who explain the innovative methods used to explore these large sites (covering dozens of hectares) in an attempt to understand their organisation and environment. It also presents the results of the latest excavations and the study of archaeological artefacts, revealing the importance of craft activities and exchanges with the Mediterranean world.
Eneko Hiriart is a researcher at CNRS. Archaeologist and numismatist, many of his books concern Celtic Europe, the economy and the ancient coins. He received the Prix de Thèse Gustave de Claussade (2016) as well as the Prix Européen d’Archéologie Joseph Déchelette (2017). His current researches lead him to study the apparition of the first cities in the tempered Europe of the 3d century BC.
