How did the Greeks and the Romans look upon the birds of prey? What is a raptor, and does such a category even exist in the Ancient world? This book deals not only with the problem of zoological classes, but also with the cultural image of each raptor – how these birds were considered, what feelings they could instil in people, what symbolism they conveyed. The aim is to compare the Greek and the Roman representations of raptors, underline similarities or, on the contrary, the differences between them, and see what permanent features or what changes there could have been in a long chronological perspective.
