Le changement dans les économies antiques
Ancient economies do change, and profoundly. There is no such thing as one ancient economy, more or less identical from Homer to Constantine. The contributions assembled here open a dialogue between historians, archaeologists, technologists and environmental scientists to understand the many aspects of these transformations. They go beyond stagnationist primitivism as well as growth fetishism. From India to the Atlantic, from the Bronze age to the Early Middle ages, they give the first place to the critical evaluation of existing sources and the production of new data, and they follow particular products and techniques (cereals, dates, cotton, salted fish, pepper, pearls, milling) from their elaboration to their diffusion, without forgetting the problems and setbacks. What appears here is the diversity and dynamics of ancient worlds, in their profound originality.
