Dwellings were not studied for themselves, but rather for their images in the eyes, dreams, and memories of travellers. Their points of view change depending on the reason for their travelling and their social status. The feeling these buildings give – strong or pleasant houses – are varied, depending on the means of mobility of aristocracies, the styles and conventions of these elites. It truly is a story about the gaze with which generations of noble and rich persons looked at their environment
